Stevie the Demon Horse sighed. "If you are absolutely looking to save money at all costs, then might I suggest our CCC Tin Package, which features Kruffkluff the Savage Redcap as a guide."

And savage he was, for Kruffkluff's picture itself showed him gnawing on the femur of a slain "hoo-mun"; the once proud masters of all the world who now reduced living in mud huts and bartering in substandard arts & crafts.

"Hmm," said Mayor Huggsley, "Perhaps we can meet in the middle and find someone a little more agreeable."

Animal of the Day - Rhinoceros Beetle

Stevie the Demon Horse flipped to the next page of the Guide Catalog he and the Mayor were examining together.

"Well," said Stevie, "Might I offer Mr. Brighton, the star guide of our Standard Platinum Package. He's very strong and can burrow through most things. He even owns a boat that you could use (which of course is added into the fee but which is very reasonable. He's a really nice guy."

"Hmmm," said Mayor Huggsley, "I see the price is still rather steep. And he is kind of gross, even for my standard. And, being a bear, I have been known to eat termites."

Animal of the Day - Greenland Dog

Stevie the Demon Horse's Triple Platinum package offered the famous Hallkatla the Explorer as expedition leader. She who was born of Hafflug the fast and Fullhaff the quick, who had discovered to escape the playpen before the others even knew that there was a world beyond it. She would be perfect.

"Yes, yes, "said Mayor Huggsley, "But do you have anyone cheaper?"

Animal of the Day - Sun Bear

Mayor Hugglsey was not swayed by the library's request to fund an expedition to any sort of Lost Island, even if it would get her name in all of the papers. There were roads to repair and summer banquets to hold.

Maybe- MAYBE, if the Explorer's Club could offer a few cheaper options?

Friday Mythical Creature of the Day - Tikbalang

Uriel travelled to the town's Explorers Guild and met with Stevie the Demon Horse, who acted as the organization's general manager and head agent. A master of the upsell, Stevie had all but hooked Uriel into buying the Triple Platinum Totville Expedition Package before realizing that the hedgehog was a mere Assistant Librarian with no actual money to spend.

But, perhaps there was a way to bring this presentation to the town's Mayor...

Animal of the Day - Castor Bean Tick

Tickles had enjoyed quite a feast while burrowed into Yusuf's backside. He was positively fat from blood. Though lazy and sleepy from his extra mass, he had thus far had managed to avoid the cat's occasional attempts to scratch and shake him loose.

He listened with only mild curiosity as Yusuf sorted through the books of the Deep Records storage unit before find an ancient atlas. An adventure, eh? Could be fun to tag along. But even Tickles knew that any sort of major expedition would require the expensive help of the Explorers Guild. Those guys could really bleed you dry.

Whenever anyone at the library remembered Salty, which was rare, they just assumed that he had been hired by one of the other staffers to guard the shed. In fact, he had simply started living there one day and no one had stopped him.

He did not in any way obstruct Yusuf from making his way into Deep Storage.

   And so the Troll sent Yusuf out to the Deep Storage shed offsite, located out back in the old bomb shelter beneath the laundry shed. Of course they would send Yusuf, thought Yusuf. It was not as if he had many things to do. It was not as if he reorganizing the library's entire section on quiltworkery and twine-ballery. No, no. Send Yusuf! That is what he is there for! Nothing else!

Friday Mythical Creature of the Day - Shojo

Mai watched through the window of her bar as that loathsome little chipmunk met with the hedgehog in the street. The hedgehog had a jar of what looked like peanut butter held in place between its quills, because it was an idiot.

On Friday, the two of them would come with their Temperance Group and perform carols outside her establishment. It was on those days that she most regretted having moved here from Villageburg.

Animal of the Day - Annelid

Lil' Dell followed the map back up the stairs through the stacks, and to the lockbox hidden in the hollowed out dictionary which held the key.

Marta was inside, having curled her way around the key and fallen asleep some time ago. Although not technically am employee of the library, her presence made a good deterrent for key thievery.

"Marta," he squawked. "Where does the key go? Where is the Records Vault?"

"That's you," she squeaked, "you do your fancy squawking when squeaking will do just fine. Just fine!"

"Where is it," he asked again, squeaking, undeterred.

"Most of that stuff was sent to offsite deep storage to make room for the pool table. Ask Uriel, he'll know what you're looking for. He's just went to the store to buy some peanut butter for the Troll."

Uriel sent Lil' Dell down into the Archives, where he was to find the map which would give him the directions which would give him the key to the Records Vault.

Animal of the Day- Rook

Uriel passed through the stacks and into his office, where he found the key to the archives under his constantly vanishing snowball collection.

He shared the space with Mitchell the Rook, who watched and said nothing. He was tired explaining to Uriel that he was a hedgehog, not a Troll. And thus should not be bad about failing to conform to Trollish standards of beauty.

Erick found his assistant Uriel rooting about in the self-help section of the dingy library.

"You're wasting your time," said the Troll. "Nothing can change your ugly face. Now go see what you can find about this Forgotten Island. And after that, fetch me a snack. Something sweet, but something salty for after that. Maybe peanut butter? I don't know. I don't know these things."

Friday Mythical Creature of the Day - Troll

Although Erick had little use for anything and anyone, he was always intrigued by a good mystery. And so, when Leonardo came to him to ask about the history of Forgotten Island, it seemed as good an excuse as any to dive into his archives and begin to research.

What fun! And a good reason to see the bird out.

Leonardo went human-watching over the Forgotten Island and found himself remembering something... Didn't there used to be a town there? And weren't there parties in the summer?

Oh, but that was a long time and many molts ago. Such things were no longer important.

And yet, it nagged him...
